Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump’s ‘Arbitrary and Capricious’ Move Rescinding DACA

Judge Says Jeff Sessions’ Interpretation Is ‘Based on a Flawed Legal Premise’

A federal judge has just issued an order temporarily blocking the Trump administration’s move rescinding the Obama-era DACA program. U.S. District Court judge William Alsup in San Francisco ordered the Trump administration to again accept renewal applications for the program that grants protections and work permits to people who were brought illegally into the United States when they were children.

Politico reports Judge Alsup ruled “Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ conclusion that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was illegal appeared to be ‘based on a flawed legal premise.'”

Buzzfeed adds that the judge called Trump’s move to end DACA was “arbitrary and capricious.”

The Trump administration must once again accept renewal applications, but is not being ordered to accept new applicants.

Earlier on Tuesday President Trump met with a bipartisan group of Congressmen and Senators to discuss enacting law to fix the DACA program. Every day 122 undocumented immigrants lose the protections given them under the program.
