Base Not Pleased With Senate Democrats Voting to End Shutdown Based on McConnell’s DACA Promise

Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris First to Vote Against Short-Term Funding Bill to End Shutdown

The Senate just voted 81-18 to pass a procedural vote which will allow a bill to end the shutdown to likely pass. The House must still vote and the president must sign the final bill but the shutdown is effectively about to end shortly.

The Democratic base is not pleased, especially given the vote comes after two days of Women’s Marches that highlighted the need to America to fix DACA to help the Dreamers.

Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris were among the first to vote on a bipartisan procedural bill to allow a short-term funding bill to pass, a step toward ending the three-day old shutdown. They voted no.

Here’s the list of Democratic Senators who voted no – a position that pleases the base.

Bottom line: Sen. Mitch McConnell’s promise to take up legislation to possibly fix DACA – which many Democratic voters don’t believe he will keep.
