‘The American Dream is Real Again’: Trump Touts ‘Accomplishments’ Amidst Government Shutdown

“We Are Truly Making America Great Again”

On the anniversary of his inauguration, even with the government shutdown, Donald Trump was credited with an op-ed published Saturday touting his “year of real change.”

In “President Trump: A year of real change,” an exclusive for the Washington Examiner, Donald Trump advised that he has “never stopped fighting for the people, and I have no intention of changing course.”

“I promised Jan. 20, 2017, would be remembered as a new day for all Americans – the day the people became the rulers of this nation once again,” the piece reads. “For the past 365 days, that promise has been my guide.”

He then asserts that his administration is putting America first, “making real change in Washington, and creating opportunities for all of our people. From coast to coast, there is a renewed spirit. Our country is roaring back more quickly than anyone could have predicted. The American Dream is real again.”

Amongst his claims, Trump touts the U.S. economy, tax reform and the notion that “Americans have seen increases in their paychecks and retirement accounts.” He then brags about his administration having approved “major projects like the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.”

“Finally, I have filled numerous vacancies in our federal courts with judges who will interpret the law as written,” Trump purportedly wrote, “including our exceptional new Supreme Court Justice, Neil Gorsuch.”

According to Lambda Legal, one-third of the president’s judicial nominees have anti-LGBT records. “We are in the midst of a judicial crisis for LGBT Americans, spurred by Donald Trump’s full-on assault on our rights, our families, and our children,” Lambda Legal Director of Strategy Sharon McGowan said in a statement.

“Over the last year, we’ve seen Trump nominate judges who are unqualified and hostile to our community – they have used slurs like ‘faggot’ in public addresses, have called our children a part of ‘Satan’s plan,’ and have even targeted a transgender teenager on Twitter for public ridicule and mockery,” she continued. “This is a terrifying fact because each of these confirmed judges will outlast this administration and have the potential to decimate civil rights in the Trump’s vision for generations to come.”

In its conclusion, despite this, the piece advises that “after one year, I am proud to report to the American people that we truly are making America great again – for all Americans!”

Early Saturday, Donald Trump launched his latest attack on Democrats, blaming them for the government shutdown. “This is the One Year Anniversary of my Presidency,” Trump wrote, “and the Democrats wanted to give me a nice present.”

In 2013, the president asserted that with leadership, “whatever happens, you’re responsible. If it doesn’t happen, you’re responsible.”
