“Fox & Friends” has decided news that President Trump ordered special counsel Robert Mueller fired but backed down isn’t really important – despite it being called a “bombshell” by several media outlets. 

“Apparently the president of the United States last June wanted to fire Robert Mueller because the president felt that he had a bunch of conflicts of interest, could not adequately be the special counsel,” Steve Doocy told his fellow co-hosts. 

After playing a clip of Trump calling the story “fake news,” guest co-host Pete Hegseth said the New York Times report “screams of a leak from the special counsel,” and continued his efforts to protect the Trump administration by trying to minimize the importance of the story.

“We did know a little bit about this, we heard back in June that there were talks, the president wasn’t happy with Bob Mueller, what would he do,” Hegseth added, claiming the Times’ reporting includes “some new details that may or may not be true.”

But the crescendo came when co-host Ainsely Earhardt weighed in.

“Well, the president says it’s fake news, that happened last June,” she said, claiming that “it is something we have to tell you have about because it’s a headline in the New York Times.”

“Fox & Friends” and Fox News do not report every headline from The New York Times.

“What do you think about that, do you even care?” she asked, sloughing off the entire story.
