‘All These People From Shithole Countries’: Trump Unleashes Racist Outburst on African Immigrants
Trump Wants More Immigrants From Norway
Thursday afternoon it was widely reported that a bipartisan immigration deal was close to being done, but a Washington Post report appears to show that deal may not get done.
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?†a “frustrated” President Trump, referring to immigrants from African countries and Haiti, demanded to know, The Post reports.Â
Trump “then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met yesterday.”
The comments left lawmakers taken aback, according to people familiar with their reactions. Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) proposed cutting the visa lottery program by 50 percent and then prioritizing countries already in the system, a White House official said.
Late last month The New York Times reported that President Trump had angrily said immigrant from Haiti “all have AIDS” and once immigrants from Nigeria had seen the United States they would never “go back to their huts†in Africa.
