White House: Trump OK With Bakers Putting Signs in Their Windows Saying ‘We Don’t Bake Cakes for Gay Weddings’

‘Religious Freedom’

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says President Trump believes bakers should be allowed to put signs in their windows saying, “We don’t bake cakes for gay weddings,” as an exercise in religious liberty. Huckabee Sanders, during Tuesday’s press briefing, said the president “certainly supports religious liberty, and that’s something he talked about during the campaign and has upheld since taking office.”

When pressed by a reporter, she added she believed placing the discriminatory sign in the window “would include that.”

The U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday morning heard the Masterpiece Cakeshop case. An anti-gay baker refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, in violation of Colorado’s nondiscrimination statute.
