‘Those Are Very Credible Allegations of Misconduct and Criminal Activity’
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is calling for President Donald Trump to resign in the face of “credible” and “numerous” allegations of criminal sexual assault. She says if the president does not “immediately resign,” Congress must investigate the allegations of at least 16 women.
“President Trump has committed assault, according to these women, and those are very credible allegations of misconduct and criminal activity, and he should be fully investigated and he should resign,” Gillibrand said Monday in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
“These allegations are credible, they are numerous,” the New York Democratic Senator continued. Â “I’ve heard these women’s testimony, and many of them are heartbreaking.”
Senator Gillibrand, CNN notes, is “a leading voice in Congress for combating sexual assault in the military.”
Congress “should have appropriate investigations of his behavior and hold him accountable,” Sen. Gillibrand added.Â

Monday morning NBC News’ Megyn Kelly interviewed three of Trump’s accusers, prompting reporters Monday afternoon to press Sarah Huckabee Sanders on the allegations of sexual assault against the president. The White House press secretary suggested the American people have already exonerated Trump because he won the 2016 election. She also claimed, falsely, there are “witnesses” who prove Trump is innocent.Â
President Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by almost 3 million votes.Â

“The remarks came on the heels of similar calls by Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.), all of whom urged the president to step down following the announced resignation of Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) over sexual harassment allegations.”
