Using Social Media, Trump Says He Doesn’t ‘Like’ Using Social Media

Twitter is Social Media

Mostly silent on Twitter today, perhaps because he’d spent his fifth straight day at his private golf course in Florida, Donald Trump returned to social media late Saturday to proclaim he doesn’t like using social media.

“I use Social Media not because I like to, but because it is the only way to fight a VERY dishonest and unfair ‘press,’ now often referred to as Fake News Media,” the president tweeted. “Phony and non-existent ‘sources’ are being used more often than ever. Many stories & reports a pure fiction!”

It’s possible Donald Trump was responding to Saturday afternoon’s report by the New York Times, which charged that the FBI’s inquiry into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and what role Donald Trump and his campaign may have played in it, began with “a night of heavy drinking” by foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos.

The tweet is Trump’s latest attack on the free press, which he routinely criticizes on social media. On Christmas Eve, the President of the United States took to Twitter to share a photoshopped image of himself with the “blood” of CNN on his shoe.

Trump has also frequently used social media to peddle in, as he calls it, “fake news.” Earlier this month, Donald Trump retweeted three extremist anti-Muslim videos that were literally fake news, something the White House advised didn’t matter because “whether it’s a real video, the threat is real.”

It’s also ironic that he frequently attacks the sources of journalists, given a few of these gems:

Donald Trump loves social media.
