Trump Tweets Astonishing Lie: ‘House Democrats Want a SHUTDOWN for the Holidays’
‘The Very Popular, Just Passed, Tax Cuts’ Trump, Says. They’re Not.
Maybe White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is already off for Christmas vacation? President Donald Trump Thursday morning has been off the rails, and it’s only getting worse. Earlier he posted a deranged tweet screaming the “Fake News Media” isn’t praising him enough for his “Massive Tax Cuts.” And now, despite zero Democrats calling for or even remotely suggesting shutting down the government days before Christmas, Trump tweets an astonishing lie demanding House Republicans block Democrats from doing so.
House Democrats want a SHUTDOWN for the holidays in order to distract from the very popular, just passed, Tax Cuts. House Republicans, don’t let this happen. Pass the C.R. TODAY and keep our Government OPEN!

White House Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway on Fox News hours earlier called chances of a government shutdown tomorrow “slim to none.”
All media reports say there is no chance of a shutdown, with some actually chastising Democrats for not trying to force one over DACA not being fixed.
The Washington Post: “Democrats unlikely to force DACA vote this week, probably averting shutdown”
CNBC: “House Speaker Paul Ryan: Congress will pass a ‘clean, vanilla’ funding bill to avert a shutdown”
The Washington Times: “Kellyanne Conway says chances of government shutdown ‘slim to none’”
And Democratic lawmakers are clamoring to ensure there is no shutdown:
Republicans have until midnight tomorrow not to shut down the government, and they can’t seem to get their act together.
A shutdown would devastate Virginia’s economy and threaten or delay vital services for millions of Americans.

House Democrats, the ones Trump lied about wanting a shutdown, responded on Twitter:
House Democrats are fighting to keep the government OPEN for children who need health care, DREAMers who need security, and those in need of disaster relief. https://t.co/VmjaMCZESh

As did the Congressional Hispanic Caucus:
🤔🤔🤔 Someone please remind the President that Republicans have majorities in the House and Senate. https://t.co/XlK2oaNaFy
— Hispanic Caucus (@HispanicCaucus) December 21, 2017
Even Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the there won’t be a shutdown:
Senate is “ready” to take up whatever government funding bill the House sends them, McConnell says on floor.

On Twitter many pointed out Trump himself had called for a shutdown:
Another lie. In fact, Trump is the one who hinted at a shutdown being a good idea. https://t.co/xA1gewcffg

#TBT: May 2, 2017 – President Trump says “our country needs a good shutdown.” Today – he’s trying to blame Democrats for HIS failure to keep government open, fund health care for children, or protect DREAMers. Sad! https://t.co/ZYHL7Kk8U6

Ironic given that Trump is on record saying “a shutdown might be a good thing for America.†https://t.co/YiyrRSFyYB
