Trump Prohibits CDC from Using ‘Transgender,’ ‘Diversity’ and ‘Science-Based’ in Official Documents
Seven Words Prohibited in Total
The Washington Post reported late Friday that the Trump administration is prohibiting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from using words including “transgender†and “science-based†in any official documents being prepared for next year’s budget.
As the outlet reported:
Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are “vulnerable,†“entitlement,†“diversity,†“transgender,†“fetus,†“evidence-based†and “science-based.â€
The Post further reported that in some cases, analysts for the nation’s top public health agency were provided with “alternative phrases†for use. “Instead of ‘science-based’ or ‘evidence-based,’†they noted, “the suggested phrases is ‘CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes.’â€
Twitter was quick to criticize the reports and share their concerns:
This is Orwellian: Trump admin gives CDC, the nation’s top public health agency, a list of words/phrases it is prohibited from using. Words/phrases are: “vulnerable,†“entitlement,†“diversity,†“transgender,†“fetus,†“evidence-based” & “science-basedâ€

The Trump administration is preventing the use of the word transgender by the CDC. How much erasure do we tolerate? At what point does the left decide that this is enough? Cause I’m afraid.

Trump administration gives CDC a list of forbidden words, including ‘fetus,’ ‘transgender’ and ‘evidence-based’ — America’s very own version of China’s Mao “Cultural Revolution”! An Orwellian language police!

That the Trump administration is prohibiting CDC officials from using a list of seven words/phrases that include “fetus,” “diversity,” and “transgender†in any official documents being prepared for next year’s budget is an attempt to undermine diversity and freedom.

What sort of society do we live in where the words “evidence-based†or “science-based†are banned from the #CDC? By banning the word “vulnerable” the Trump admin tries to erase the empathy, health, and well-being of our nation.
Don’t let them.#CDC7Words#ImpeachTrump— Qortni (@Qortni) December 16, 2017
The Post reported further that it was likely that other parts of Health and Human Services “are operating under the same guidelines regarding the use of these words.”
