Susan Collins Becomes 51st Senator to Support Disastrous GOP Tax Cuts for the Wealthy Bill – Now All but Certain to Pass

Text of Legislation Has Not Been Released – No One Knows What They’re Voting On

51 Republican Senators are now supporting the GOP tax-cuts-for-the-wealthy bill, with Maine Sen. Susan Collins being the most recent. That means the bill will pass, barring any further problems, (like a Republican with a conscience.) The text of the legislation is still being drafted, and it has not been released – to anyone. Only 25% to 30% of Americans support the bill.

Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown makes clear what the bill is about:

What little we do know about the bill is it will add $1 trillion to the deficit, giving new meaning to the term “fiscally conservative.” They are literally giving tax breaks to millionaires, billionaires, and corporations and forcing low-income and moderate-income Americans to pay for them – not to mention our children, our children’s children, our children’s children’s children… Yes, your taxes are likely to go up, not down.

It’s important to note that the GOP tax bill literally will reweave the entire U.S. economy. No person in the United States of America will be unaffected. And yet, the Republicans are, to quote one of their favorite phrases, literally jamming this bill down our throats, without having even read it.

When the bill comes to the Senate floor for a vote, not a single Republican Senator, or their aides, will have read it. They have no idea what they will be voting for, and they don’t care.

Democratic U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer Friday afternoon blasted Senate Republicans:

And why are they doing this? House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi knows:

You should still call your Senators and your Member of Congress: (202) 224-3121.
