White House, Basically, Nothing to See Here, Move Along. American People Say Otherwise.
Just two hours after Senator Al Franken announced Thursday he is resigning amid sexual misconduct allegations, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked about the far more severe and extensive allegations of sexual assault against President Trump by at least 16 different women.Â
Senator Franken Thursday just before noon said, “I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office.”
Her response?
The American people don’t care, and they don’t care because they elected him president.
“Look, the president addressed the comments back during the campaign,” Huckabee Sanders said. “We feel strongly that the people of this country also addressed that when they elected Donald Trump to be president.”
Of course, that’s blatantly false. And by a huge margin.
Seven out of ten Americans (70%) accoding to a new poll this week want Congress to investigate the allegations of sexual assault against President Donald Trump.
More broadly, the American people did not technically elect Donald Trump, the Electoral College did. Hillary Clinton won nearly 3 million more votes than Trump, so by the White House Press Secretary’s standards, the American people actually do want to hold Trump accountable.
