Roy Moore Refuses to Concede Alabama Race in Rambling Religious Screed Attacking Sodomy, Same-Sex Marriage, Transgender People

‘We Have Even Begun to Recognize the Right of a Man to Claim to Be a Woman, and Vice Versa’ Moore Laments

As he has done his entire career, Roy Moore late Wednesday night placed his personal interpretation of the Bible over Alabama law. In a rambling nearly five-minute video in which he indistinguishably mixed Scripture and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the twice former Chief Justice tried to reframe his two percentage point, 21,000 vote loss to Democrat Doug Jones into a battle against “immorality.” And he made clear he is still refusing to concede the election, citing uncounted absentee ballots.

The Alabama Secretary of State, who is doing his part to delay certification of the race to allow Senate Republicans to vote on the disastrous tax bill without the duly elected Democratic winner of the Alabama special election, has all but said there’s no way for Moore to be declared the winner. But that’s insufficient for Moore.

The Washington Post says Moore’s “fire-and-brimstone video” “wasn’t your typical post-election statement.”

A far right wing religious extremist and political opportunist, Moore, in his video attacks same-sex marriage, sodomy, abortion, transgender people, the removal of prayer from public schools, materialism, drug addiction, and other issues.

“We are indeed in a struggle to preserve our republic, our civilization and our religion and to set free a suffering humanity,” Moore, wearing a lapel pin cross, said. “Today, we no longer recognize the universal truth that God is the author of our life and liberty. Abortion, sodomy and materialism have taken the place of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

“We have stopped prayer in our schools,” Moore said. “We have killed over 60 million of our unborn children. We have redefined marriage and destroyed the basis of family, which is the building block of our country. Our borders are not secure. Our economy is faltering under an enormous national debt. We have a huge drug problem. We have even begun to recognize the right of a man to claim to be a woman, and vice versa.”

“We have allowed judges and justices to rule over our Constitution, and we have become slaves to their tyranny. Immorality sweeps over our land,” complained Moore, who has been credibly accused by nine women of child sexual molestation, sexual assault, and the aggressive pursuit of teenaged girls.

He also claims there is no difference between the two political parties, while claiming he is fighting for “the heart and soul of our country.”

Moore did not say if he would seek a recount.
