Republican Congressman Says ‘Diversity Is Not Our Strength’ in Attack on ‘Mixing Cultures’

Congressman Is a White Nationalist

A powerful Republican U.S. Congressman known for his extremist views is raising eyebrows again. Rep. Steve King of Iowa took to Twitter Friday afternoon, saying, “Diversity is not our strength.” His tweet links to an article profiling Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, in which he reportedly says: “Mixing cultures will not lead to a higher quality of life but a lower one.”

King, a white nationalist who’s also been accused of being a “white supremacist icon,” is perhaps best known for his 2013 remarks in which he falsely claimed that practically every undocumented immigrant is a drug smuggler with “calves the size of cantaloupes.” One month before that offensive claim he screamed on Twitter, “llegal aliens have just invaded my DC office.” Those “invading illegals”? A group of about a dozen high school and college students.

One year later King said “all Ferguson protestors “appear to be of a single continental origin.”

More recently, earlier this year Congressman King predicted a race war between “Hispanics and the Blacks.”

Congressman King has insisted that throughout history no other “subgroup of people” have contributed “more to civilization” than whites. And he has co-sponsored a bill “banning existing federal civil rights laws from protecting transgender people.”

Also this year on Twitter King said: “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.”

And in July, King offensively compared transgender service members to eunuchs.
