11 Minutes Into Trump’s Inaugural Address Mike Flynn Told Business Partner Russian Sanctions Would Be ‘Ripped Up’

‘Strongest Evidence to Date That the Trump Administration Wanted to End the Sanctions Immediately’ NY Times Reports

The New York Times and NBC News have just published what can easily be described as the strongest evidence yet that the Trump team had motivation to accept Russia’s assistance to help Trump win the election. Citing a whistleblower, the Times reports moments after President Donald Trump was sworn in to office, as he was delivering his inauguration speech, Mike Flynn was promising that the Obama-initiated sanctions against Russia would be gone.

“Donald Trump was just 11 minutes into his presidency when his choice for national security adviser, Michael Flynn, texted a former business partner to say an ambitious U.S. collaboration with Russia to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East was ‘good to go,’ according to a new whistleblower account,” NBC News reports.

As Trump delivered his inaugural address, says the unnamed whistleblower, Flynn directed Alex Copson, managing director of ACU Strategic Partners, to inform their business partners “to put things in place.” 

The whistleblower also says that Flynn assured Copson that U.S. sanctions on Russia that could block the nuclear project would be “ripped up” once Trump was inside the White House.

The New York Times adds that “Flynn believed that ending the sanctions could allow a business project he had once participated in to move forward, according to the whistle-blower.”

House Oversight Democrats posted a thorough exposé to Medium, including a letter by Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings about the whistleblower. Special Counsel Robert Mueller had reportedly asked Cummings to hold off on making the whistleblower’s allegations public, until now.

“The account is the strongest evidence to date that the Trump administration wanted to end the sanctions immediately, and suggests that Mr. Flynn had a possible economic incentive for the United States to forge a closer relationship with Russia.”

The account is detailed in a letter written by Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. In the letter, Mr. Cummings said that the whistle-blower contacted his office in June and has authorized him to go public with the details. He did not name the whistle-blower.
