‘Churchill Fought Fascists. Trump Retweets Them’: Mike Huckabee Mocked for Comparing Trump to Churchill

“Trump is adored by Nazis and regards them as ‘very fine people’. Churchill vowed to kill every last one.”

Mike Huckabee is being mocked for a tweet he posted comparing President Donald Trump to a British icon, the late Winston Churchill. As Prime Minister, Churchill is credited with defeating the Nazis. As President, Trump is seen as supporting their followers.

Huckabee, an ordained minister, former Arkansas governor, and twice-failed GOP presidential candidate, suggested the comparison in large part because of Trump’s refusal to adjust his offensive behavior and his refusal to back down when attacked or attacking.

Many responded via Twitter, mocking Huckabee, who is father to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

One tweet that went viral, as The New York Times noted, came from Norwegian lawmaker Kristian Tonning Riise.

The Times also notes historians disagree strongly with Huckabee’s comparison of Trump with the late, great world leader.

Susan Pedersen, professor of British history at Columbia University told The Times the comparison is “ridiculous.” She added that Churchill “had real intellectual and political strengths: He was intelligent, literate, well-versed in history, had long experience in government, and knew what he stood for.”

The inference is Trump does not.

Others on Twitter tore apart Huckabee’s claim.
