Seven of 21 Women US Senators So Far Have Called for Franken to Resign
Six Democratic women U.S. Senators have just called on their Democratic colleague, Senator Al Franken of Minnesota, to resign in the wake of the latest allegation of inappropriate behavior. Sen. Franken offered several apologies after the first allegation, and denies today’s.
Just before noon several women Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill held a press conference calling for Franken’s resignation.

The Democratic Senators include Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Kamala Harris (CA), Maggie Hassan (NH), Claire McCaskill (MO), Mazie Hirono (HI), Patty Murray (WA), Tammy Baldwin (WI).
Sexual harassment and misconduct should not be allowed by anyone and should not occur anywhere. I believe the best thing for Senator Franken to do is step down.

It is clear that Al Franken has engaged in a pattern of egregious and unacceptable behavior toward women. He should resign.

Al Franken should resign.

Today, I am calling on my colleague Al Franken to step aside. I’ve struggled with this decision because he’s been a good Senator and I consider him a friend. But that cannot excuse his behavior and his mistreatment of women. (thread)

I’m shocked and appalled by Senator Franken’s behavior. It’s clear to me that this has been a deeply harmful, persistent problem and a clear pattern over a long period of time.
It’s time for him to step aside.

I believe it is best for Senator Franken to resign.

There are 21 U.S. Senators who are women, 16 of them are Democrats.
Sen. Gillibrand speaks after calling for Sen. Franken to step aside: “We as elected leaders should absolutely be held to a higher standard, not a lower standard, and we should fundamentally be valuing women.” https://t.co/hYeyQfmBsN pic.twitter.com/fk1jnvPeMJ

It’s likely there will be more calls on Franken to resign.Â
