BREAKING: Amidst Republican Attacks, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe To Reportedly Retire

Formerly Comey’s Right-Hand Man

The Washington Post reported Saturday that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe will reportedly retire in the coming months.

McCabe, the Post reported, “has been the target of Republican critics for more than a year,” and “plans to retire in a few months when he becomes fully eligible for pension benefits, according to people familiar with the matter.”

They further noted:

McCabe, 49, holds a unique position in the political firestorm surrounding the FBI. He was former director James B. Comey’s right-hand man, a position that involved him in most of the FBI’s actions that vex President Trump as well as the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state, a matter that still riles Democrats.

Earlier this week, McCabe gave a confidential and closed-door testimony before the House Intelligence Committee. Within that testimony, McCabe reportedly confirmed that Comey had advised him that Trump had asked for the former FBI Director’s loyalty prior to his firing.

In June, Comey appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee, where he advised that the president told him that “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.”

Benjamin Wittes, Editor-in-Chief of Lawfare, offered caution on the matter.

“I have always assumed that McCabe would retire in March to let Wray build his own team,” he wrote. “So I would not see this as part of any purge.”
