UPDATED: Franken Disputes Story He Is Expected to Resign Thursday as 30 Senate Democrats Call on Him to Go
Franken Speaking With His Family Tonight
U.S. Democratic Senator Al Franken will resign on Thursday, Minnesota Public Radio reports, citing an unnamed Democratic official. Sen. Franken’s office is disputing the report (see below.)Â
31 of Franken’s fellow Democratic Senate colleagues urged him Wednesday to leave in the wake of six allegations of sexual misconduct.
On Wednesday five, then six, then seven, then ten Democratic Women Senators called on Franken to resign. Democratic Men quickly joined, and before 5 PM at least 30 Democratic Senators had publicly stated their belief he could no longer serve.
This tweet from CNN’s Nathan McDermott shows just how rapidly Democrats acted Wednesday.
