Trump White House Invites Reporters to a ‘Holiday’ Reception
Trump Won’t Quite Be the ‘Merry Christmas’ Messiah His Supporters Had Been Promised
Two years ago in November candidate Donald Trump threatened a boycott of Starbucks – including a threat to kick them out of his then-prestigious Fifth Avenue Trump Tower – because the coffee purveyor dared to switch to solid red cups for the holiday season.
“Maybe we should boycott Starbucks,” Trump suggested, boasting that the international coffee merchant operates “one of the most successful Starbucks,” in Trump Tower. “I don’t know. Seriously. I don’t care. By the way: That’s the end of that lease. But who cares? Who cares? Who cares?!”
“If I become president, we’re all going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again. That I can tell you. That I can tell you! Unbelievable.”
This past December, at a Wisconsin victory rally, Trump promised supporters everyone would be saying “Merry Christmas” now that he had been elected.
“So when I started 18 months ago, I told my first crowd in Wisconsin that we’re going to come back here someday, and we are going to say ‘Merry Christmas’ again,†Trump said. “Merry Christmas — so, Merry Christmas everyone. Happy New Year, but Merry Christmas,” Trump continued.
Last month, President Trump told the far right wing Christian conservative Values Voter Summit, “We’re saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again,” to which they literally stood, applauded, and cheered – as if they had been denied their right to free speech previously.

But now, it appears Trump won’t quite be the “Merry Christmas” messiah his supporters had been promised.
“An invitation sent to White House reporters Thursday invites them to a ‘holiday reception’ at the White House, despite President Trump’s repeated promises to buck political correctness and make ‘Merry Christmas’ in vogue again,” the right wing Washington Examiner reports.
The invitation “states ‘the President and Mrs. Trump request the pleasure of your company at a Holiday Reception to be held at the White House,'” the news site notes, adding that only the subject line of the email says, “White House Christmas Reception.”
The Washington Examiner posted a copy of the invitation that says “Holiday Reception,” which was included in the email.
