Trump Denigrates Service of US Troops Fighting, Dying in Middle East: ‘What a Mistake, in Lives and Dollars’

‘What a Mistake, in Lives and Dollars (6 Trillion), to Be There in the First Place!’ Trump Says of Troops in the Middle East

President Donald Trump denigrated and diminished the service of U.S. troops fighting in the Middle East, including those who gave their lives, saying Friday morning it was a “mistake” they were there at all. This stunningly ignorant pronouncement came just one day after the Commander-in-Chief told Coast Guard members they are fighting for “something real” and “something good”: a “record high stock market” and low unemployment.

Early Friday morning Trump posted this tweet, saying by talking with the increasingly dictatorial president of Turkey, he will get mid-East peace “done.” He also complained that he “inherited” a “mess” in the Middle East. There has been war in the Middle East for centuries.

Trump is greatly mistaken if he thinks he can bring peace to the Middle East with a phone call. But he also thought his untrained son-in-law Jared Kushner could bring peace to the Middle East. Those efforts failed miserably.

But most importantly, especially this time of year, as our dedicated service members are away from their families during the holidays, it’s staggeringly obtuse for the Commander-in-Chief to say our troops serving their country and making the ultimate sacrifice was a “mistake.”

Instead, the president, and all Americans, should find ways to thank them for their service.

To all our service members, thank you.
