Trump Just Called Elizabeth Warren ‘Pocahontas’ – at an Event at Event Honoring Native Americans

Trump Dishonors Native American Code Talkers

For almost two years Donald Trump has been referring to Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas,” meant to be a slur because she claims her ancestors include Cherokee and Delaware Indians.

It was only a matter of time for this politically-incorrect president, but Monday afternoon Trump, standing next to several Native American veterans who helped America win World War II, called Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.”

Monday’s event was to honor Native American code talkers, who used their native language during both World Wars to outwit the enemy.

“Since in some cases, their languages were unwritten, they were able to communicate in a way that confused German enemies trying to break U.S. military codes,” CBS News notes.

During the event, the code talkers described the harrowing experiences they undertook during their time defending the United States during the battle of Iwo Jima.

Earlier this month Trump lashed out at Sen. Warren, again repeating the derogatory word – just days after dedicating November as Native American Heritage Month.

The Washington Post noted recently that “Indian Country columnist Ruth Hopkins said Trump is mocking Native American women by invoking Pocahontas, a member of an Algonquian tribe encountered by English captain John Smith on an expedition in Virginia.”
