Trump Tries to Ignore Democratic Sweep of 2017 Election by Tweeting Congratulations to ‘DEPLORABLES’

Falsely Claims ‘MASSIVE’ Electoral Victory

President Donald Trump is taking a cue (as he usually does) from Fox News by wholly ignoring the stunning wave of wins Democrats earned Tuesday night during the first Election Day of the Trump era. Instead, after distancing himself from yet another GOP candidate he endorsed who lost, Trump Wednesday afternoon tweeted congratulations to all the “DEPLORABLES” he said gave him a “landslide” win last year.

Trump posted a photo of himself and several staff members aboard Air Force One, all giving a big “thumbs up.”

Congratulations to all of the ”DEPLORABLES” and the millions of people who gave us a MASSIVE (304-227) Electoral College landslide victory!” he tweeted. It is the first time Trump has correctly stated the correct Electoral College numbers – he usually states he won 306 Electoral College votes.

But as usual, Trump is wrong in claiming a “landslide” victory.

His 304 Electoral College votes rank his win as one of the worst – not on of the best. Trump’s win puts him at 46th out of 58th. Not a great showing.

Trump supporters started calling themselves “deplorables” after video of Hillary Clinton using the word.

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables’. Right?,” Clinton said at a fundraiser two months before the 2016 election.

“The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it,” Clinton specified. “And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

Not widely reported was that Clinton had also said the other basket of Trump supporters “are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for change.”
