Trump Had Time to Falsely Politicize NYC Terror Attack, Has Not Had Time to Call Governor, Mayor, Police Commissioner

Trump Continues Silent War Against Democratic States He Lost

It’s been nearly 24 hours since a terrorist mowed down about 20 people, killing eight of them, on a beautiful and very popular  Manhattan bike path. And yet President Donald Trump has not called the governor of New York, the mayor of New York City, or the commissioner of the NYPD.

The president wasted little time politicizing Tuesday’s terror attack in New York City, taking to Twitter barely two hours after the attack began. He’s continued his commentary, spreading false information about tax cuts, ObamaCare, his (all-caps for some reason) “Extreme Vetting Program,” and more – eleven tweets in total.

At a late morning press conference Governor Cuomo told reporters that he is not angry Trump has not bothered to call him, the mayor, or the police commissioner. But he is “bothered” that Trump politicized the attack.

“I am not bothered that the president didn’t call,” Gov. Cuomo told reporters. “I am bothered by an attempt by anyone to try to politicize the situation,” he said, without naming Trump specifically.

“That plays right into the hands of the terrorists. They’re trying to disrupt, they’re trying to create mayhem, they’re trying to divide.”

“The president’s tweets, I think were not helpful,” Cuomo continued. “I don’t think they were factual. I think they tended to point fingers and politicize the situation. He was referring back to an immigration policy that dealt with a lottery and blaming people who passed that immigration policy. His tweet wasn’t even accurate, as far as I’m concerned.”

Trump’s tweets were far from accurate. He implied the suspect, who was quickly shot and taken into custody by the NYPD, was from the “Middle East,” when he was from Central Asia – the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan.

And Trump attacked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer by name, actually blaming him for the terror attack by saying he supported the legislation that created the immigration program under which the suspected terrorist came into the U.S. The Diversity Immigrant Visa lottery was actually bipartisan legislation signed in to law by President George H.W. Bush.

Several years later, when Sen. Schumer tried to repeal that program, Republicans in the House voted down the proposal.

But back to President Trump not calling Gov. Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, and Police Commissioner James O’Neill.

The governor and mayor are Democrats. They have not been supportive of Trump.

It is unacceptable that President Trump only visits states he won in the election, and only supports states with Republican governors.

It’s childish, cowardly, and frankly, pathetic. Worse, it’s un-American, and it needs to stop. Now.

UPDATE:
White House at about 3 PM EDT claims Trump called the governor and the mayor.
