Trump Mocked, Excoriated for Ignoring Questions on Roy Moore During ‘Major’ News Conference With ‘Not One Scintilla of News’

“There was no news at all. Not one scintilla of news in this so-called ‘major announcement.’ The president knew that.”

About 36 hours ago President Donald Trump, nearing the end of his 12 day Asia trip, announced via Twitter, “I will be making a major statement from the @WhiteHouse upon my return to D.C. Time and date to be set.”

That time and date was Wednesday afternoon at 3:30.

It was a disaster.

First, just for fun, let’s watch Trump need a glass of water, look for it, only to find it’s not where it was supposed to be. Reporters had to point to a bottle of water next to the podium:

But more importantly, Trump’s news conference had no news. It was empty. After calling it a “historic” trip, Trump bragged about how much foreign leaders like and respect him – he thinks – and what a great job he did representing America, apparently because he didn’t think there was enough mainstream media coverage of him.

Upworthy’s Parker Molloy debunked that claim:

Meanwhile, CBS News’ Major Garrett was angered.

“There was no news at all,” he told viewers. “Not one scintilla of news in this so-called ‘major announcement.’ The president knew that. Most of his major advisors knew that.

As the event concluded, Trump ran from questions about the biggest story of the past week, Roy Moore. He refused to comment.

Overall, all Trump did was fill the air with platitudes. “America is back and the future has never looked better,” he told America. He said America has “made a great comeback,” which is true if you’re an investor in the stock markets. Not if you’re an hourly or even salaried employee, for the most part. And Trump’s tax plan is about to make all of that worse – unless you’re among the very rich.

Here’s how some responded on Twitter:
