Trump: Welfare Recipients Don’t Work But Make More Than ‘The Person That Is Working His and Her Ass Off’

‘The Person Who’s Not Working at All and Has No Intention of Not Working at All Is Making More Money’

President Donald Trump told supporters in Missouri Wednesday afternoon a plethora of falsehoods and lies to try to sell his unpopular tax plan. He wrongly characterized the effects of the tax legislation, claimed it would affect him and other rich Americans negatively, and demonized lower-income Americans as lazy people who have no intention of working because they are on welfare and make more than those who work multiple jobs.

“I know people they work three jobs, and they live next to somebody that doesn’t work at all,” Trump told supporters as he outlined his thoughts on welfare reform. “And the person who’s not working at all and has no intention of not working at all is making more money and doing better than the person that is working his and her ass off.”

The president’s remarks echo those made by Republicans before him, including Ronald Reagan, who repeatedly berated those he called “welfare queens” – people who refused to work but were able to game the system.
