Roy Moore Tells Sean Hannity He ‘Generally’ Did Not ‘Date’ Girls Younger Than 18

‘I Have Never Engaged in Sexual Misconduct’ Moore Says

Roy Moore has finally responded to allegations in a Washington Post article published over 24 hours ago, alleging the Alabama Republican senatorial nominee in his 30’s sexually assaulted a 14-year old girl.

Some of Moore’s comments are stunning and striking.

“These allegations are completely false and misleading,” Moore told Hannity Friday afternoon on the Fox News host’s radio program. He also called the story “a dangerous lie.”

“But more than that it hurts me personally because you know, I’m a father. I have one daughter, I have five granddaughters, and I have a special concern for the protection of young ladies,” Moore insisted.

Moore denies ever having met Leigh Corfman, the woman who told the Washington Post that Moore sexually asaulted her in his own home when he was a 32-year old assistant district attorney and she was 14.

“I don’t know Ms. Corfman from anybody,” Moore told Hannity, as The Washington Examiner reports. “I’ve never talked to her. Never had any contact with her. Allegations of sexual misconduct with her are completely false. I believe they are politically motivated. I believe they are brought only to stop a very successful campaign and that’s what they’re doing. I have never known this woman or anything.”

Moore attempted to deny that he “dated,” as he and Hannity described his activities, women who were younger than 18 when he was in his 30’s. “I dated a lot of young ladies,” Moore said.

He says he remembers two of the three other women interviewed by the Post, insisting he did not remember going on any “specific dates” with them.

Asked specifically about “dating” teenaged women younger than 18 when he was in his 30’s, Hannity replied, “not generally, no” and, it “would be out of my customary behavior. I don’t recall,” he said, if he did or not. He added that he at times had sought permission from girls’ mothers.

The allegation against Moore that is the most damaging is that he sexually assaulted a 14-year old girl. How he and Hannity can make the jump to “dating” is unclear.

Moore also insisted he has evidence of “collusion” but refused to offer any other information about that allegation.

And he said voters can expect more allegations against him.

“I’m sure in the next four weeks, they’re going to come out with another article,” Moore told Hannity.

In a written statement released Friday afternoon, Moore echoed some of the remarks he made on Hannity’s radio show.

“I have never provided alcohol to minors, and I have never engaged in sexual misconduct,” he said. “As a father of a daughter and a grandfather of five granddaughters, I condemn the actions of any man who engages in sexual misconduct not just against minors but against any woman.”

He insists he never gave girls 16 years old or younger alcohol because that would have been illegal.

Here’s how The Daily Beast’s Sam Stein described his takeaway from Moore’s interview:
