Sore Loser Pens Letter to the Editor
The Republican lawmaker who lost his Virginia House of Delegates seat to Democrat Danica Roem has decided to continue his campaign attacking her, ten days after the election. Delegate Bob Marshall, who has served the people of Virginia since 1992, is going out a sore loser.
When Roem beat Marshall last Tuesday, she made a point of telling reporters that Bob Marshall would be her constituent and she would not speak ill of constituents. Marshall, who does not leave office until January, has done the opposite.
In a Washington Post letter to the editor Marshall attacks Roem, claiming she has a “radical transgender agenda.” Roem will be the first openly-transgender lawmaker to be elected and seated in a state legislature. She “ran on a platform of local issues, like fixing traffic, creating jobs in her district, and raising teachers salaries, and she intends to follow through on those commitments,” TIME reported last week.
That’s not how Marshall sees his successor.
“If you think insurance premiums are high now, just wait until Virginia Del.-elect Danica Roem’s legislation to force insurance companies to cover ‘sex change’ operations takes effect [‘Roem to push for transgender health care,’ Metro, Nov. 11],” Marshall writes in a letter published Friday.
“Will Ms. Roem (D) also cover sex-change reversals to treat the growing incidence of ‘sex-change regret‘Â by persons who find the ‘cure’ worse than the ‘disease’?” he asks.Â
Marshall cites a recent Newsweek article that relies on commentary from a doctor in Belgrade, Serbia, a 2007 BBC article, and a 2011 study of “Swedish transsexuals” that is based on data from 1973-2003 to prove its desired point.Â
He also links to a Washington Post article published last Friday, that actually negates his claim of, “If you think insurance premiums are high now, just wait…”
In fact The Washington Post letters editor should have demanded a re-write from Marshall or refused to publish his letter.
The Post article Marshall cites makes clear that “health insurance coverage for treatment related to gender transitions…already is mandated for most insurance plans under a 2016 anti-discrimination regulation that is part of the Affordable Care Act.”
There would be no increase based on Roem’s proposed legislation, which only is in response to Trump’s executive order that would rescind the ObamaCare regulations.
In other words, Virginia health care consumers would not see any increase in the current premiums. And, in other words, Marshall, as he has for many years as a Virginia Delegate, is not telling his constituents the truth.
By the way, for those unfamiliar with Marshall, in January he proposed a law to out transgender students to their parents. Two years earlier he proposed a religious liberty bill against “same-sex marriage or homosexual behavior.”
In fact, Marshall has spent years attacking the LGBT community, while not actually accomplishing much for the people of Virginia. Which is why they decided to replace him with someone willing to actually do the job.
