On Roy Moore’s Alleged Pedophilia, Trump Says He Doesn’t ‘Watch Much Television, Primarily Because of Documents’

Donald Trump, pressed on Senate candidate Roy Moore’s alleged pedophilia, told reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday that he doesn’t “get to watch much television, primarily because of documents.”

The claim came as part of the same press gaggle in which the president publicly sided with a “very insulted” Russian President Vladimir Putin over all 17 U.S. government intelligence agencies regarding Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

The president was asked by a reporter if it was “time to pitch [Roy Moore] overboard” following the extensively-researched Washington Post report that alleged that the potential U.S. Senator committed sexual assault on a 14-year old girl when he was a 32-year old assistant district attorney. (Three other women also approached the outlet, advising Moore approached them between the ages of 16 and 18.)

“Well again, I’ve been with you folks, so I haven’t gotten to see much,” Trump responded to the reporter, as The Hill reported. “And believe it or not, even when I’m in Washington or New York, I do not watch much television. I know they like to say that.”

“People that don’t know me, they like to say I watch television—people with fake sources,” he continued. “You know, fake reporters, fake sources. But I don’t get to watch much television. Primarily because of documents.”

“I’m reading documents. A lot. And different things,” Trump, yes, continued—still not directly addressing Roy Moore’s alleged pedophilia. “I actually read much more—I read you people much more than I watch television. But anyway. So I have not seen very much about him, about it. And you know I put out a statement yesterday that he’ll do the right thing.”

Trump was referring to the statement in which he became the latest to join a long line of Republicans to defend Roy Moore over the allegations.

“But four women have come forward and accused him of inappropriately touching them, basically making advantages when they were underage, including a 14-year-old,” the reporter pressed Trump. “At one point—and you said, ‘If he did it,” but at what point do you decide if he did it. Because it’s right now their word against his.”

“Honestly,” Trump responded, “I’d have to look at it and I’d have to see. Because again, I’m dealing with the president of China, the president of Russia. I’m dealing with the folks over here. So I haven’t devoted, I haven’t been able to devote very much time to it.”
