Pelosi and Schumer Cancel Meeting With Trump After President Tweets ‘I Don’t See a Deal!’

Democratic Leaders ‘Chuck and Nancy’ Opt to Deal With Congress, Not Trump

Ten weeks ago President Donald Trump, licking his wounds over yet more failed legislation, turned the tables on Congressional Republicans and sat down with Congressional Democratic leaders, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, or, “Chuck and Nancy,” as Trump took to calling them.

When the meeting was concluded the Democrats released a statement saying a deal on DACA would be imminent, within a few weeks.

No deal was ever struck.

Leaders Pelosi and Schumer were to meet with the president in the White House on Tuesday, but the ill-tempered Trump hours before the scheduled summit, Trump posted this false tweet:

Minutes ago Pelosi and Schumer released another joint statement, basically saying, “we’re outta here.”

“Given that the President doesn’t see a deal between Democrats and the White House, we believe the best path forward is to continue negotiating with our Republican counterparts in Congress instead,” Leader Pelosi and Leader Schumer said. “Rather than going to the White House for a show meeting that won’t result in an agreement, we’ve asked Leader McConnell and Speaker Ryan to meet this afternoon.”

Meanwhile, over 100 DACA participants are losing their protections every day. There’s also the issue of keeping the federal government running, and something few have discussed: CHIP, the Children’s Health Insurance Program expired two months ago. Congress has not lifted a finger to re-authoriize it. States are beginning to notify parents their children are about to lose coverage.
