Two Senators Pull Endorsements, Trump Still Endorses
Just an hour after Sean Hannity‘s interview with Roy Moore ended, two Republican U.S. Senators Friday evening announced they are rescinding their endorsements of the Alabama Republican senatorial nominee.
U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) took to Twitter to make his announcement.
U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) earlier Friday had requested Moore cease using his image in fundraising materials. Washingtonian reporter Elaina Plott broke the news that Lee was rescinding his endorsement, just one minute before Daines did:
President Donald Trump and his former chief White House strategist, Breitbart publisher Steve Bannon, have not rescinded their endorsements of Moore.
Moore stands accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year old girl when he was a 32-year old assistant district attorney. He is also accused by three other women of attempting to engage in romantic or sexual relations with them when they were between 16 and 18 years of age, again when he was in his 30’s.Â
Moore denies all the allegations.
Friday afternoon in an interview with Sean Hannity Moore said he “generally” did not date girls younger than 18, adding it was not his “custom” to do so.
Also on Friday, #RoyMooreChildMolester was the number one or number two top trending hashtag on Twitter, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) pulled the plug on financing Moore’s campaign.
