Matt Lauer Terminated From NBC News ‘Today’ Show for Inappropriate Sexual Behavior

Veteran Co-Host Fired Effective Immediately

Co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb Wednesday morning opened the “Today” show with the announcement NBC News has terminated Matt Lauer for inappropriate sexual behavior.

“As I’m sure you can imagine, we are devastated and we are still processing all of this,” Guthrie said, with Kotb.

“I will tell you right now we do not know more than what I just shared with you, but we will be covering this story as reporters, as journalists. I’m sure we will be learning more details in the hours and days to come. And we promise we will share that with you.”

Lauer worked on the show for two decades. NBC News has not released specific details other than to say one accusation levied led to his termination, and it was the only accusation in Lauer’s tenure. The statement, which Guthrie read on-air, also noted NBC had reason to believe there possibly were other accusations to come.

Lauer, 59, was reportedly paid $28 million annually.
