Kayla Moore Defends Husband From Attacks Because ‘Most of All He Is a Christian’

‘He Is a Loving Father and a Grandfather. Most Important, He Is a Christian’

Kayla Moore on Friday continued her defense of her husband, Roy Moore, after allegations over the past week that he sexually assaulted a child, aggressively pursued and sexually assaulted teenaged girls, called a student at her high school to ask her out on a date, and was banned from the local mall and YMCA for hitting on teen girls. Nine women have come forward and gone on the record, using their names, to make the accusations since a week ago Thursday.

“Let me set the record straight,” Kayla Moore told supporters at a Women for Moore rally Friday afternoon, as Politico reports. “Even after all the attacks against me, against my family, against the Foundation and now against my husband, he will not step down. He will not stop fighting for the people of Alabama. In his words, and I quote, ‘I will not stop until they lay me in that box in the ground.’”

It’s actually unclear how Moore has been “fighting for the people of Alabama.” As a public servant he was a state Supreme Court Chief Justice, an elected role from which he was twice removed for refusing to follow federal law. And as an assistant district attorney several decades ago Moore allegedly hit on teen girls and, again, was allegedly banned from at least two facilities.

Moore opened up her press event by apologizing to supporters for not returning their calls and thanking them for their “prayers.” She and her husband, she claimed, have “been inundated with so much positive response from the people of Alabama.” She claims 90 percent of the messages have been positive, “and most of the negative is from out of state. The people of Alabama understand what’s going on here.”

Moore attacked The Washington Post, claiming the paper, which first published the allegations last week about Roy Moore sexually assaulting a child and pursuing three other teen girls, has printed “whatever anyone says without checking to even see if it is correct.” But she also claimed Friday that “The Washington Post has called everybody that I have ever known for the last 40 years. They have called everybody my husband has ever known for the last 40 years,” which negates her claim that they are not checking to see if what they are printing is correct. The Washington Post’s reporting on Roy Moore has been exceptionally well-sourced and documented.

“We are in a battle,” Kayla Moore insisted, suggesting her husband’s fight is a religious crusade. “The people of Alabama know him. They have seen what he has done, fighting for life, fighting against abortion and fighting for the acknowledgement of God. Fighting for traditional marriage and fighting for the Second Amendment and our rights, given by God, protected by our Constitution,” she insisted.

To be clear, it is not the job of a state Supreme Court Chief Justice to fight against abortion, fight for the acknowledgement of God, fight for traditional marriage, or even to fight for the Second Amendment. It is his or her job to interpret the state Constitution and the laws of the state and apply them properly.

She ended the event with a vote of confidence for her husband.

“I have been married to my husband for over 32 years. He was a graduate of West Point and served our country in Vietnam and has always been an officer and a gentleman,” she said. “He is a loving father and a grandfather. Most important, he is a Christian,” she said. To that remark her supporters around her echoed, “Yes.”

“So let me set the record straight, He will not step down.”
