‘There’s Got to Be a Thorough Investigation Into the Effect of Antidepressants’ Robertson Insists

The FBI and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are investigating Sunday’s massacre that left 26 churchgoers, more than half children, dead, and another 20 injured in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The suspect, who reportedly killed himself after being chased by two people who saw the attack, is a 26-year old who was booted from the military for domestic abuse who was engaged in an ongoing domesticÂ dispute with his former in-laws, who frequented the church. They were not among the victims.

Increasingly, researchers are finding links between those who have a history of domestic abuse, and mass shooters.

But televangelist Pat Robertson has weighed in now, so apparently there’s no need for officials to continue their workÂ â€“ Pat has it covered. The problem, he said Monday, is antidepressants.Â

No report has stated the gunman was on antidepressants.

After describing the suspected gunman as “mentally unstable,” Robertson offered his divine opinion.

“I hope and pray they don’t politicize this thing and start talking about gun control and all that because it won’t be necessary,” RobertsonÂ told his “700 Club” viewers, as Media Matters reported.

“But I do think there’s got to be a thorough investigation into the effect of antidepressants on these [inaudible]. And they’ve been so many of these mass killings and almost every one, as I said before, has had some nexus to antidepressants. So, we need to see what we are giving people. But my goodness, our prayers are with those people from that small community in Texas. The worst shooting — church shooting — in the history of the United States of America.”
