Ellen: Trump Is ‘Encouraging Americans to Kill Elephants’ Who Have Abilities ‘I Have Yet to See in This President’

‘Elephants Show Compassion, Sympathy, Social Intelligence, Self Awareness’ DeGeneres Says

Ellen DeGeneres is going after President Trump for lifting an Obama-era policy that bans Americans from bringing elephant “trophies” – like their tails and their ivory tusks – into the country. The ban worked to reduce the number of elephants murdered by “big game” hunters, like President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr.

“Basically, by lifting this ban, he is encouraging Americans to kill elephants,” Ellen told her audience.

“I love elephants, and if you take the time to learn about elephants, you would love elephants, too,” she said. “Elephants show compassion, sympathy, social intelligence, self awareness. They’re excellent at learning abilities. All the things I have yet to see in this president.”

Her audience cheered and applauded that remark.

“If you’re not outraged, then I beg you to take a little time to just learn about elephants. Just Google them and see how truly remarkable they are,” DeGeneres said.

“They’re worth fighting, for and we owe it to them to protect them.”

Trump’s “loosening of guidelines on big-game hunting continued Thursday with lion trophies from some African countries also being allowed,” HuffPost notes.
