‘Attack on the Christian Faith’
An outspoken anti-gay Catholic Bishop is outraged over a popular photo of a nativity scene featuring two Josephs. Standup comic, actor and writer Cameron Esposito tweeted a photo of the Christmas decorations, which she says were in her neighborhood, to Twitter last Friday.
In less than a week it has received more than 22,000 likes and several thousand retweets.
One person who will not be liking the image is Providence anti-gay Bishop Thomas Tobin, who says the image is sacrilegious.
“Just came across this photo of a ‘gay nativity’ scene — two Josephs dressed in pink watching over the Christ Child,” Bishop Tobin wrote on his Facebook page, as NBC 10 News reports.
“How sad that someone believes it’s okay (or funny or cool) to impose their own agenda on the holy Birth of Jesus. Pray for those who did so, for their change of heart, and that Jesus will forgive this sacrilege, this attack on the Christian Faith.”
Facebook comments appeared mixed.
One person wrote, “every single religious person imposes his or own agenda, religion is a cherry tree you do your own pickings.”
“Why are religious people so consumed with hate?” asked another.Â
“This is a sign of progress and hope for all of us,” wrote one person.Â
Not everyone was pleased with the image. One person said it was “disrespectful,” and “does not depict the nativity at all. I don’t care what your stance on gay marriage is, this is soooo wrong.”
Another: “Total wickedness.”
Bishop Tobin in 2009 said any American whose religion conflicts with their job should quit their job. Unemployment at the time was 10.2%. Â
