‘Netflix Will Not Be Involved With Any Further Production of House of Cards That Includes Kevin Spacey’
Netflix has fired “House of Cards” actor and executive producer Kevin Spacey. The move comes just five days after Broadway actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making an inappropriate sexual advance against him when he was just 14 years old. That revelation, made Sunday night in a Buzzfeed article, elicited other allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior against the now 58-year old Academy Award and Tony Award winning actor.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,†Netflix said in a statement, as Variety reported. “We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.â€
Earlier this week Netflix responded to Rapp’s accusations by announcing it was canceling “House of Cards” after the upcoming season, which is still in early production stages and possibly now in jeopardy.
Friday morning CNN reported “Kevin Spacey made the set of Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’ into a ‘toxic’ work environment through a pattern of sexual harassment, eight people who currently work on the show or worked on it in the past tell CNN. One former employee told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him.”
On Thursday Spacey’s publicist and agent dropped him.
