Watch Live: Trump Addresses Anti-LGBT Organization

Trump Cozying Up to Far Right Wing Anti-LGBT Groups

Scheduled to begin at 7:10 PM EDT, President Donald Trump Tuesday night will address the Heritage Foundation, a far right wing think tank that is home to a religion center funded by the DeVos family. Trump’s speech comes just days after he became the first sitting president to address the Value Voters Summit, an annual confab hosted by the anti-gay hate group Family Research Council.

“President Trump is actively courting organizations who use hatred and fearmongering to target the rights of the LGBTQ community,” Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD, said on the organization’s website when commenting about Trump’s scheduled speech to the Heritage Foundation. “As Trump continues to push for religious exemptions to legalize discrimination against the LGBTQ community against the will of the American people, he must be held accountable for his ties to these fringe anti-LGBTQ groups.”

In a backgrounder released Tuesday, GLAAD notes the ties the Trump administration has, in addition to the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society, to the Heritage Foundation.

Former Heritage Foundation staffer Roger Severino has been credited with helping champion the Trump Administration’s so-called “religious exemptions” in healthcare from his post as the head of the Health and Human Services’ Civil Rights Office. This anti-LGBTQ agenda run counter to a recent study by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) which showed that a majority of Americans oppose anti-LGBTQ “religious exemption” laws.

You can watch the President’s speech below, or on C-SPAN.

The event may not begin as scheduled. Heritage says it will start broadcasting at 7:35 on its Facebook page.
