WATCH: George W. Bush Just Delivered a Speech Attacking Bigotry, Nativism, and White Supremacism. Guess Who He Was Talking About?

‘Bigotry or White Supremacy in Any Form Is Blasphemy Against the American Creed’

Former President George W. Bush in New York City Thursday morning delivered a speech clearly attacking the behavior and policies of the current President, Donald Trump, and, his administration. And while Bush did not mention Trump by name, it’s clear this was a strong rebuke of his fellow Republican.

“Bigotry or white supremacy in any form is blasphemy against the American creed,” the former President said, to applause, while speaking on behalf of the George W. Bush Institute.

Bush warned that “bullying and prejudice in our public life sets a national tone,” and noted that “the only way to pass along civic values is to first live up to them.”

He described the “governing class” as “paralyzed in the face of obvious and pressing needs.”

“Bigotry seems emboldened,”  Bush observed. “Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication.”

“We’ve seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty,” Bush lamented. “We’ve seen nationalism distorted into nativism,” as he warned against protectionism and isolationism.

And he noted that “the Russian government has made a project of turning Americans against each other.”

There is no possible way to see this speech as a pointed and intense rejection of President Donald Trump, “Trumpism,” the “alt-right,” and the far right.
