Trump’s Recklessness Threatens ‘World War III’ Warns Powerful Senate Republican

“Like He’s Doing ‘The Apprentice’ or Something”

The latest criticism of President Donald Trump is coming not from a Democrat but from a Republican.

President Trump’s reckless actions could lead to a third World War, U.S. Senator Bob Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee said Sunday night. 

The New York Times reports that Senator Corker “charged in an interview on Sunday that President Trump was treating his office like ‘a reality show,’ with reckless threats toward other countries that could set the nation ‘on the path to World War III.'”

The Times called it “an extraordinary rebuke of a president of his own party.”

Mr. Corker said he was alarmed about a president who acts “like he’s doing ‘The Apprentice’ or something.”

“He concerns me,” Mr. Corker added. “He would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation.”

Corker also told the Times, “I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain” President Trump.

“I don’t know why the president tweets out things that are not true,” Corker also told the Times. “You know he does it, everyone knows he does it, but he does.” 

As the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Corker is positioned to be far more intimately aware of how Trump’s actions have affected America’s diplomatic efforts abroad.

“I know he has hurt, in several instances, he’s hurt us as it relates to negotiations that were underway by tweeting things out,” Corker also said. 

Corker, a powerful Republican who found himself the target of the president’s tweets this weekend, announced last month he is retiring after his term ends. 

The president early Sunday morning had attacked Corker, falsely claiming, on Twitter, “Senator Bob Corker ‘begged’ me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee. I said ‘NO’ and he dropped out (said he could not win without…my endorsement). He also wanted to be Secretary of State, I said ‘NO THANKS.’ He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran Deal!”

Corker, in a tweet that received great praise, shot back: “It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”
