Trump Praises ‘Beautiful, Soft, Very Good Towels’ Thrown at Hurricane Survivors, Attacks ‘Incapable’ Puerto Rico Mayor (Video)

“I Was Having Fun, They Were Having Funâ€
Appearing in a propaganda-laced interview with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee for his new Christian talk show, Donald Trump praised the “beautiful, soft, very good towels†he threw at hurricane survivors in Puerto Rico, while renewing his attack on heroic San Juan Mayor Carmen YulÃn Cruz.
“We weren’t treated fairly by the media, because we really did a good job,†Trump told Huckabee. “I’ll give you one example. They had these beautiful, soft towels. Very good towels.â€
“And I came in and there was a crowd of a lot of people. And they were screaming and they were loving everything. I was having fun, they were having fun,†the president continued, referring to the hurricane survivors who had lined up at a church that had been converted into a food distribution center.Â
“They said, ‘Throw ‘em to me! Throw ‘em to me, Mr. President!’ So next day they said, ‘Oh it was so disrespectful to the people.’â€
“It was just a made-up thing,†Trump concluded. “And also when I walked in, the cheering was incredible.â€
“You were a rock star,†Huckabee responded, “I saw the video of it.â€
Watch:
Prior to this, the president renewed his attacks on San Juan’s mayor, a vocal critic of the federal government’s response to the disaster in Puerto Rico and Donald Trump’s willingness to attack the American citizens there dealing with the hurricane’s fallout.Â
Donald Trump falsely claimed that YulÃn Cruz “didn’t attend meetings… didn’t work with FEMA, who really did not do a very good job.†He further insisted that she was the “lone voice†in criticizing the president’s response to Puerto Rico, also false.
As NCRM reported, Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star spoke with Puerto Ricans about Trump’s visit. Here’s one account:
“He takes two weeks to visit a disaster zone where 3.5 million American citizens live. He arrives with a smile on his face, makes fun of the situation, shows no empathy, lies and lies on camera as he does 24-7. And then throws paper towel rolls to people in need as if he was playing Go Fetch with dogs,†said Joel Isaac, 27, a New York actor who moved from Puerto Rico three years ago.Â
Most of Isaac’s family is still on the island. He said he had never felt humiliated as a Puerto Rican until he watched Trump’s visit.
“It’s the whole scene where the privileged white man comes to save the brown peasants after they’ve been begging, thirsty and hungry. It’s super disgusting to see, honestly,†he said.
