‘Stand for Anthem or Sit for Game!’
Ten people died Monday in California’s terrible wildfires that are literally destroying entire neighborhoods as the uncontrolled infernos grow at an exponential rate. At this very moment Texas Tech is on lockdown and a campus police officer has been shot to death. Five days ago the Pentagon announced that three United States Army Special Forces had been killed in Niger. On Friday that number grew to four. Nearly all of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are still without power. Hurricane Nate is now a tropical storm delivering huge rains and flooding to the Northeast.
And all that’s just for starters.
None of it did President Donald Trump address on Monday.Â
And none of it did he mention Monday night.
Instead, after a day of golfing, President Trump continued his gleeful assault on NFL players silently protesting police killings of Black people and the racial injustice, inequality, and oppression Blacks in America suffer daily.
President Trump late Monday night tweeted “a big salute” to his buddy Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys.
Jones has mandated that his players either stand for the national anthem, or sit out the entire game. In fact, Jones said if anyone his players do “anything that is disrespectful to the flag” they will not play.
On Sunday, Jones said President Trump “reminded” him the rules state players must stand for the anthem. That’s incorrect. It says “should.”
Also on Sunday Vice President Pence in a totally staged and very expensive bit of theater walked out of a Colts game after players took a knee. President Trump then confirmed it was totally staged, as did reporters who were told the Vice President likely would not be at the game long and they should wait in the press poll van.Â
