Majority of Houston Texans Kneel During National Anthem After Owner Called Them ‘Inmates’
Owner Robert McNair Donated $1 Million to Trump Campaign
Houston Texans players, ahead of their Sunday game against the Seattle Seahawks, took the knee during the national anthem to continue peacefully protesting police brutality and racial oppression.
The move was also seen as a response to their owner having referred to NFL players who take the knee as inmates.
“We can’t have the inmates running the prison,” Robert McNair, who donated $1 million to support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, told fellow NFL owners earlier this month.
As NCRM reported this week, McNair issued an apology following backlash over his commentary after suggestions of racism. “I regret that I used that expression. I never meant to offend anyone and I was not referring to our players. I used a figure of speech that was never intended to be taken literally,†his statement read. “I would never characterize our players or our league that way and I apologize to anyone who was offended by it.”
