Hours Before Fallen Soldier’s Funeral, Trump Renews Attack on Congresswoman Frederica Wilson

Day 5

With no public events scheduled this weekend to distract him, Donald Trump began Saturday morning by attacking U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, hours ahead of slain Army Sgt. La David Johnson’s funeral.

Saturday marked the fifth day that the president and his administration attacked Wilson, who exposed Donald Trump’s abysmal response to slain Army Sgt. La David Johnson, killed in Niger.

This week, Wilson described a phone conversation between Trump and Johnson’s widow, in which the president reportedly told the the grieving, expecting mother of three “he knew what he was getting into.”

Johnson’s own mother confirmed the reports. “President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” Jones-Johnson said.

“I hope the Fake News Media keeps talking about Wacky Congresswoman Wilson,” the president tweeted, “in that she, as a representative, is killing the Democratic party!”

“Family members and friends are preparing to say their final goodbyes to an Army seargeant from Miami Gardens whose death has sparked a war of words between a South Florida congresswoman and President Donald Trump and his chief of staff,” Miami’s NBC affiliate reported early Saturday.

The outlet continued:

The viewing for Sgt. La David T. Johnson was Friday night at Christ the Rock Community Church in Cooper City, followed by a funeral Saturday at the same church.

“I couldn’t believe it. Like it didn’t feel real,” said Terkiya McGriff, Johnson’s sister. “Like, it didn’t feel real, but now reality hit me and it was like he’s really gone. And I’m not going to ever have my brother anymore.”

Johnson, a husband and father of three, attended Miami Carol City Senior High before enlisting in the Army in 2014. The 25-year-old was among four American soldiers who were killed in an Oct. 4 ambush in Niger.

The affiliate further reported that Johnson’s aunt, who “raised the soldier from a young age,” re-confirmed the family’s account that the president was disrespectful.

According to the president’s press pool, Donald Trump was spotted this morning wearing a white polo shirt, a white hat and dark pants and traveling to an “undisclosed location.”
