First Lady Supporting Action That ‘Fosters Integrity and Leadership in Young Kids’ Spokesperson Says
First Lady Melania Trump is traveling Monday to a Detroit suburb to speak out against bulling, just hours after President Donald Trump attacked a Gold Star widow on Twitter, effectively calling her a liar. The president posted the tweet minutes after Myeshia Johnson told ABC News that what hurt the most about her call with President Trump was that he couldn’t remember the name of her husband, U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson, when he made his condolence call two weeks after Johnson was killed in action. She also said Trump’s words hurt her and made her cry even worse.
Melania Trump “is bringing awareness to a problem that many children are confronted with on a daily basis,” CNN reports. “She will give brief remarks to students and then join them for lunch as they participate in a ‘No One Eats Alone Day’ event. The concept, which encourages kids not to leave anyone out at lunchtime, was created by Beyond Differences, a national organization that works to combat detrimental school culture and prevent bullying.”
Many on social media were angered and outraged that the president would attack a Gold Star widow, who is the mother of two with a third child on the way.
Trump’s communications director Stephanie Grisham told CNN the First Lady “wants to talk to kids about the importance of being inclusive and the negative effects of social isolation. This kind of activity also fosters integrity and leadership in young kids.”
President Donald Trump’s official @POTUS account praised the First Lady for her anti-bullying efforts last month, but his personal @RealDonald Trump Twitter account never did.
