After Roy Moore, Steve Bannon Backs Second Candidate – Who Is Also Anti-Gay

Bannon Choosing Candidates Who Will Fulfill His Dream ‘To Destroy the State’

Steve Bannon is backing another congressional candidate. After helping Alabama’s former Chief Justice, Roy Moore, win the GOP nomination for Jeff Sessions’ Senate seat, the Breitbart publisher who once bragged his website is the “platform for the alt-right” has chosen to support another anti-gay candidate, and it’s a doozy.

Bannon is throwing his weight behind convicted felon, ex-con, former Republican U.S. Congressman Michael Grimm, who infamously and on-camera once threatened a reporter, saying he would throw him “off this f*cking balcony,” and break him “in half. Like a boy.”

In short, Bannon is backing a thug.

“We’re definitely going to work together,” Grimm told Newsweek. “And I can say that Steve Bannon was very excited about it.”

Convicted for tax evasion, Grimm, who was the Congressman for Staten Island, was sentenced to eight months in prison. He was actually charged with 20 counts of fraud, tax evasion, and perjury, but in a plea bargain admitting to just one count of tax fraud.

As part of his plea deal, Grimm “acknowledged committing perjury, hiring illegal immigrants and committing wire fraud,” The New York Times reported.

Grimm this week announced he is running to take his former House seat back.

It’s stunning that anyone would back an ex-convict, but even more stunning that Steve Bannon, a self-described “economic nationalist” who is not infrequently described as holding white nationalist beliefs, would back someone who admitted to hiring undocumented immigrants.

What’s not surprising is that like “Judge” Roy Moore, Grimm is anti-gay. While he supported ENDA, an LGBT nondiscrimination bill, Grimm is on record as opposing same-sex marriage. OnTheIssues, which tracks candidates’ political statements and positions, lists Grimm as “strongly” opposing same-sex marriage.

“I believe, by definition, that marriage is between a man and a woman, just as President Clinton did in 1996 when he signed the Defense of Marriage Act into law, defining it as such,” Grimm said in 2011. It does not appear he has made any public statements on marriage equality since then.

In her 2014 memoir, Senator Elizabeth Warren detailed a conversation she once had with Grimm. Bottom line: he told her he does not believe in government.

Which perfectly ties into Steve Bannon’s mission of wanting to destroy government.

Bannon has described himself as a “Leninist,” according to The Daily Beast.

“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”

Grimm has also called for abortion to be made illegal and for Planned Parenthood to be defunded. He supports repealing ObamaCare (which would harm minority communities, including LGBT people especially.) He’s supported reducing funding to prevent domestic violence, would require welfare recipients – many of whom are disabled, under age, or seniors – to work, opposes all gun control measures, and supports the PATRIOT Act’s extensive wiretapping.
