‘I Have Proof’: Trump Denies He Told Soldier’s Widow ‘He Knew What He Signed Up For’

President Lashes Out at Democratic Congresswoman

After being widely criticized for not having contacted the families of the four soldiers killed in Niger, President Donald Trump late Tuesday afternoon called the widow of U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson. The Commander-in-Chief now is being widely criticized for comments he is accused of making to Myeshia Johnson. And now President Trump is lashing out at the Democratic Congressman who was sitting by the widow’s side when Trump called, who told a reporter what he had said.

Democratic U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson said Trump told Johnson, “he knew what he signed up for …but when it happens it hurts anyway.”

Those remarks went viral on social media Tuesday night.

Video of Rep. Wilson from Tuesday appeared on NBC’s “Today” Wednesday morning.

In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday morning, Rep. Wilson confirmed that the president had made those remarks. She also said on MSNBC and CNN that Mrs. Johnson was distraught because Trump didn’t remember her husband’s name when speaking with her.

The president’s claim that he has “proof” suggests that he may have had the call recorded, unless his proof is merely the word of anyone who might have been in the room with him at the time.
