Trump Targets John McCain in Latest Early Morning Twitter Tantrum

‘Let Arizona Down!”

As if on cue, Donald Trump began his weekend with an early morning Twitter tantrum, this time focusing on Republican Senator John McCain. 

McCain, a former prisoner of war (POW) in Vietnam, has been a target of Trump’s since the campaign trail. The Arizona Senator most recently drew the president’s ire for killing Republicans’ last attempt to strip millions of Americans of their health care.

This week, the GOP’s latest attempt, the Graham-Cassidy Proposal, was effectively placed on life support after McCain announced he will – again – not support Republican efforts, placing American lives before partisanship.

It was enough to launch Trump’s 6:42 A.M. tweet storm this morning.

“John McCain never had any intention of voting for this Bill, which is Governor loves,” the president wrote. “He campaigned on Repeal & Replace. Let Arizona Down!”

“Arizona had a 116% increase in ObamaCare premiums last year, with deductibles very high,” he continued. “Chuck Schumer sold John McCain a bill of goods. Sad.”

Trump then targeted McCain’s friendship with Lindsey Graham, saying that he “let his best friend L.G. down!”

Of note, Lindsey Graham took to Twitter yesterday following McCain’s announcement that he wouldn’t support the measure, noting that his friendship “is not based on how [McCain] votes but respect for how he’s lived his life and the person he is.”

The president, two hours after his tantrum began, closed by praising the crowd size of the Alabama campaign rally he held late Friday, in which he also criticized McCain and targeted NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. 

With sports clearly weighing on the president, he then rescinded an invitation for NBA All-Star Stephen Curry to visit the White House. Curry said this week he didn’t wish to visit, as he doesn’t “stand for what our president has said.”
