Says DREAMers Are ‘Young Adults’ Not Children
President Trump has finally broken his silence on his decision to end DACA, an Obama-era program that protects  from deportation young, undocumented immigrants brought to America as children.
“I have a great heart for the folks we’re talking about,” Trump told reporters about DREAMers, “a great love for them,” he added, stressing the word “love.”
“People think in terms of children but they’re really young adults,” the president added, in stark contrast to his now famous comments in February on DACA, saying he loves kids. “I have a love for these people and hopefully now Congress will be able to help them, and do it properly.”
“We have no choice,” Trump added – a phrase he often uses when there actually are choices. “I think it’s going to work out very well.”
Former president Barack Obama, in a rare statement issued just one hour prior, said of Trump ending DACA, “this is about basic decency. This is about whether we are a people who kick hopeful young strivers out of America, or whether we treat them the way we’d want our own kids to be treated. It’s about who we are as a people – and who we want to be.”
Earlier Tuesday Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration is ending the immigration program that covers about 800,000 undocumented immigrants.
