Ted Cruz Blames ‘Inadvertent’ Like of X-Rated Twitter Video on ‘Staffing Issue,’ Internet Explodes

On Twitter, Cruz’s Response Merely Allowed for Even More Jokes

The Internet has been having a great time mocking Ted Cruz after his Twitter account Monday night “liked” an x-rated porn video posted to the social media platform. It remained “liked” for nearly an hour, allowing the unpopular Texas Tea Party Republican some rare attention.

Cruz’s communications director announced the “like” had been reported, although did not say to who.

But Cruz has decided to downplay it, and is refusing to blame anyone by name.

“There are a number of people on the team that have access to the account & it appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button,” Cruz said, according to NBC News’ Frank Thorpe.

He also joked about it a bit: “Perhaps we should have done something like this during the Indiana primary,” the former GOP presidential candidate added, as The Daily Beast noted.

And Cruz blamed it on a “staffing issue” – feel free to do with that what you will.

“It was a staffing issue, and it was inadvertent, it was a mistake, it was not a deliberate action.”

Thorpe asked Cruz if the staffer will be fired.

“We’re dealing w/ it internally, but it was a mistake, it was not malicious conduct.”

On Twitter, Cruz’s response merely allowed for more jokes:
